Yes, the weak magnets would be directly associated with the spark, as it is the magnets turning around in the rotor, passing thru the TCI unit, that creates the spark to the plug. The magnets are not a seperate part that you can buy, and there is no specs for how strong they should be, so they would say "replace the rotor with everything on it from the factory". I don't think I would shell out $300 for the part, however, as it would be much more cost effective to get a used one, like from Oliver from France, if you can. Since you know what a new one costs, you can get a good idea on a used one. I have no idea if they can "remagnetize" a magnet, where you would send it to do that, or if anyone does it. Maybe there are magnets for sale somewhere for this very purpose; somewhere like Tractor Supply Company, would be the only ones that I know of that may have some. Then you have the problem of how to attach them to the rotor. I think they are glued on from factory, but with what glue? Being as my whole 6800 tractor only costed me $300, I would not sink that kind've money into one part, cause as you said, you can put that towards a newer tractor. That is the dillema with these tractors, 'cause parts will continue to get more scarce and increase in price. You have encountered probably one of the most rare kinds of starting problems--weak magnets in the rotor.
