What is the TCI unit and what does that do?  I see on here that someone has the Upper pulley with magnets for srtarting ignition is that the same as the rotor assemlbly and if so what would you say a fair price for that used?

The TCI unit is the coil that is used for each side. I think people are getting CDI and TCI confused-they are one and the same.
This may be the drawing you're looking for...never have seen a used one for sale, so don't know.

#5 and 6 are the TCI units.
#1 is the rotor assembly that has the magnets.

Re: Starting problems for my YT6800

Ok Im sure Ive asked this before but one last time  as you know Ive got my YT6800 in the shop and they are saying that the magnets are weak and that they have tested the coils by touching them on the rotor I guess and they do spark so they are saying that because of the magnets being weak that I need the rotor assembly which to me seems like why not just remagnatize the magnets and also in your opinion would this cause the tractor not to start?  also the only thing I can say is that it was getting harder to start it as like having to turn it over and over to get it to start so again in your opinion would this all be related to weak magnets? and if so do you know why it is not an option to just remagnatize them or just replace the magnets?  which I have to admit I have not seen just the magnets.  once again thanks for all your help and like I said its just alot of money for this part and I just want to be as sure as I can be about it

Yes, the weak magnets would be directly associated with the spark, as it is the magnets turning around in the rotor, passing thru the TCI unit, that creates the spark to the plug. The magnets are not a seperate part that you can buy, and there is no specs for how strong they should be, so they would say "replace the rotor with everything on it from the factory". I don't think I would shell out $300 for the part, however, as it would be much more cost effective to get a used one, like from Oliver from France, if you can. Since you know what a new one costs, you can get a good idea on a used one. I have no idea if they can "remagnetize" a magnet, where you would send it to do that, or if anyone does it. Maybe there are magnets for sale somewhere for this very purpose; somewhere like Tractor Supply Company, would be the only ones that I know of that may have some. Then you have the problem of how to attach them to the rotor. I think they are glued on from factory, but with what glue? Being as my whole 6800 tractor only costed me $300, I would not sink that kind've money into one part, cause as you said, you can put that towards a newer tractor. That is the dillema with these tractors, 'cause parts will continue to get more scarce and increase in price. You have encountered probably one of the most rare kinds of starting problems--weak magnets in the rotor.

AMEN!   Also the 6800  can be parted out for a few more hundred dollars to put towards a newer machine.

Well I was told that they checked all connections and wiring and found that the magnets were weak on the rotor and they determind that was the problem  I do agree that it just seems strange that it started fine until I washed it but if the magnets are weak it could make it not start so I guess Im stuck at replacing it just praying that is the issue

I have seen rust build up between the magnets and the coil.  We would take 220 sand paper and clean any rust build up off.  It is very critical that the gap is correct between the flywheel and coil. If not correct it will cause a weak spark.

Good call, Yamadog, I forgot about the gap. Don't know what it should be, though...

Well I did find a new rotor for 200.00 so I bought it and its on its way so Im praying that this will fix it I do love this mower and how well it cuts and rides I like that it has the hydro trans and the ptu blades and the deck adjustments and the power that it has and being that I have had a few other mowers that were simplicity and craftman and even a john deer none of them cut as good as this one I guess Im gonna chance it but I am gonna buy another rider for a back up and to keep ware and tare off the yamaha its too bad they dont make these any more I even borrowed a husqvarna that was 3000.00 and is new and that did not cut as good even with nice sharp blades compare to my yamaha dull ones funny how something that old and all out does something new  even the wieght of the yamaha is so much more than the husqvarna pretty inpressive anywhooo I hope to get my baby back and my grass will like it too lol

Yes I know I have had other mowers and none of them cut near as well as this one also they are so much lighter then the yamaha I just borrowed a husqvarna of the same size and that is brand new and even with sharp bladed did not cut like my yamaha so that is why I decided to pay the 200.00 for the rotor and am praying that this is the problem and so I can have my baby back I am gonna buy another mower just as a back up and maybe put my yamaha up for sale as much as I hate to your so right they are built good the deck has adjustable wheels and have them on all four corners which not many do unless you get the top of the line ones I do have some parts for my baby once she comes home that will dress her up even better while looking for a rotor I found stuff that mine needed like the matts and the guide for the drive lever and even a snow blower for it and a new seat and new muffler which mine did not need but hey for 50.00 bucks I thought why not concedering I have only seen that one ever for sale and even got a can of paint for it for touch ups thought that was a good find also and got some new tires for it again mine are good but could not resist the bargan so Im so betting on that this will fix my baby lets all pray together lol

In all those years You never once had a problem with flywheels and the magnets not having gauss to create a spark? My Only thought was that I have with heat been able to take the strength of a magnet. Can you tell me if you ever had a way to increase the gauss? Just curious
