Hey guys, no special treatment necessary, I'm just glad to help people get these things back doing their jobs--cutting grass, etc. When my JD 318 broke down 3 years ago. I was in a jam and bought my 6800 for
$300. Like many of you, I found that there was no info available for them. I then found this forum, which, if you read the older posts, wasn't very active. What I did find, owning a 1985 JD tractor, is that they are all basically the same...I'm talking pre-1992 here, not newer stuff. They all have virtually the same problems and symptoms and fixes,  so if you research enough, and belong to some knowlegable forums, you learn just enough to be dangerous! I can recommend a good one... mytractorforum.com. It covers many different brands, and general questions and other stuff. For older JD stuff, I can recommend weekendfreedommachines.com. Just by reading through questions and answers, you can learn a lot, and have the confidence to fix these things yourself. These were all a mystery for me too, before I started doing this. Small engines become much less of a question mark with some basic info, and you find out how much the small engine repair guys are making off of you.
Happy Mowing!!!
