Rectifier & Regulator

INEEDHELP
I love my Yamaha but I am clueless about its mechanics - I need help
I have had a problem similar to what I have seen discussed under PTO problem - the PTO would not restart after being stopped when the engine was hot - and sometimes to get it to work at all I had to overrev the engine into the "Choke" zone almost causing it to stall before the PTO would engage.

Having read a lot of stuff, I mostly didn't understand, I put a meter on the battery - it reads 12.56 volts when the engine is off and 12.45 when the engine is running. I read that this needs to be about 14.00 when running for the PTO to work. At present the PTO will not engage at all no matter what I do. Does this mean there is a problem with the Rectifier & Regulator - and if so how do I test/prove this? If not - what else should I be doing.

A new part is very expensive probably worth more than the tractor so please help - but could you keep your answers very simple. Thanks

You are correct about the voltage needing to be about 14v. Under 13v will not be enough to turn on the PTO.
First thing to always try is a different battery. If no change in voltage with different battery, than your charging system isn't working.

As he (Rattosh51) says change the battery....I had exactly same problem here.... new battery made all the difference

Ps. good to see you back on the forum (Rattosh51) as not seen you for a while!
during the summer I picked a spare yt3600 unit (Not so many £££) and after a little tinkering managed to get it running....gonna use for spares although my daughter wants to use its chassis for a toylander/model land rover conversion. Is there a facility to pm, that you know about on here?

Thanks Stuart--changed jobs and forgot to change my profile email address, and was too busy the last few months...but I'm Back! I've been looking at a 3600 in My neighboorhood for $350(U.S.)....don't really need
it, but I'd like a crackat the smaller model for awhile....good luck with yours. Don't have any info on that Rover conversion, but keep us informed!
