Last month I was forced to rebuild my hydro unit, broken thrust bearings and races. It took three months of constant internet searching to look for any hydro that would fit and I came up with ZERO. $250 would have been cheap. After checking with Yamaha dealers I found one that at least knew that Yamaha manufactured a lawn tractor, his old parts book listed the hydro unit for $896. (N/A now). I would put the hydro on a shelf. With none available that unit right now is worth a lot more than $250 for a right buyer.

I notice from your post that you replaced the camshaft.  I wonder if you could answer a few questions about it.  My YT3600 recently started losing power when the PTO is engaged or is driven uphill without the PTO engaged, to the point of severe shaking and engine stalling.  But it runs great with no load on the level.  The local repair shop says it is a bad camshaft and will be $1200 including parts.  A friend said a bad camshaft sounds plausible as a worn gear on the camshaft could cause poor valve timing under load.  Anyway, were those the symptoms you were experiencing (power loss and stalling when the PTO is engaged, but runs great under no load)? Was it just the camshaft or any were other parts bad?  On inspection of the camshaft, was it the camshaft gear, or the lobes?  Did you do the work yourself?  Where did you get the parts?The repair shop said they'll need to have the camshaft shipped from the Netherlands of all places.

To all you mechanics out there, I assume the repair shop checked electrical and fuel systems, etc.   (not surprised they are OK since it runs great under no load).  My question is, how could they tell it was a bad camshaft without disassembling the motor? Thanks,
